80k/40k/25k Mountain Bike race

Imagine this...Mountain biking on the enchanted Island of Great barrier.
Welcome to the Great Barrier MTB Marathon. This is a fun and challenging event open to anyone with a mountain bike. But you better do some training! Beginners, novices, veterans and elite riders are all invited to come out and enjoy a great weekend of riding/racing and exploring.
Race around a beautiful remote Island! The Great Barrier Island is in the Hauraki gulf 90k north east of central Auckland. This rugged unspolit island is a paradise in the ocean with large areas of native bush and amazing coastlines and beaches.
The Great Barrier Island MTB Marathon starts at the beautiful Medland beach campground on the east coast of the island.
Course details:
All courses have a combination of Dirt roads, Sealed roads, Forest trails, 4WD trail and Single track. This course will put a big smile on your face.
The 80k is epic in its climbing/descending and variation of terrain and covers nearly all of the island. The 40k and 25k are also challenging and follow the first part of the 80k course.
Trail surface is fast (when its dry). Slippery in places when wet.

11.30am (25k)
80k/40k/25k Categories:
Open to riders 14yrs and above.
Please note: 14 - 17yrs may only enter the 40k and 25k event.
18yrs+ can enter the 80k/40k/25k.

80k Based in Wellington's rugged Akatarawa Ranges, 10k north of Upper Hutt City, the Merida Karapoti Classic is New Zealand's premier mountain bike event. Combining a huge but achievable challenge with spectacular scenery and an awesome social scene, Karapoti is the event on every mountain biker's wish list. But don't take our word for it - enter now for New Zealand's favourite mountain bike race... But be quick... Entries are limited to 1000 starters and last year we had 1800 wanting to ride.
